He grew up with and fell in love with a girl named Rachel and became engaged to her; when he was twenty-two, she nearly died saving his life and contracted amnesia, begging him to go away until she could recover. When he returned, Kohlingen had been attacked by the Gestahlian Empire, and Rachel thrown into a vegetative state which the town doctor maintained in the hope that Locke could find a cure to revive her. Locke also joined the resistance faction called The Returners, met King Edgar Roni Figaro and finding his best bud for life, and developed a hero complex the size of a damn mountain. At twenty-five, he was called to Narshe by a member of the faction to take charge of a girl who'd been a soldier of the Empire under mind control. Meeting Terra changed everything about his life, led him to let Rachel go as she finally died, and helped him find love again with Celes Chere (perhaps the most unlikely romance available). Kefka killed many, many people and destroyed the world, but eventually the Returners killed him, and began to help rebuild from the destruction.
